Fun Facts
🚢 A PHD STUDENT’S IDEA:
The whole concept was born out of Mario Biferali’s PhD research, where he was studying the increasing size and evolution of modern yachts.
He blended the words naval and yacht to coin the term “Nacht®”, which became the brand name for this collection of post-industrial conversions at Oceanco.
He had already worked at Oceanco from 2014 to 2016 as a yacht outfit engineer on iconic builds like the 88.5m “BARBARA”, the 90m “DREAMBOAT” and the 109m “BRAVO EUGENIA”.
So when he pitched his container-ship-to-superyacht idea, Oceanco’s sales director Wim Verhoeff he said Mario’s “technical background means he’s not given to fluffy thinking” and that the design was “already close to being feasible”.
⏱️ IT WOULD SAVE UP TWO YEARS VS. BUILDING IT FROM SCRATCH:
One of the most compelling selling points of this project would be time.
A new custom 150-metre yacht typically takes up to five years to deliver. A conversion like Anthos could shave 12 to 24 months off that timeline. As Verhoeff put it: “For many owners, time saved is more valuable than money”.
📦 THEY ALREADY PICKED OUT THE “DONOR” SHIPS:
This isn’t just a fantasy render. Oceanco and Biferali identified several real, viable donor vessels: mostly 1990s-era container ships around 12’000 GT, including the “Meratus Mamiri” and “MSC Belle”.
These ships are commercially obsolete but remain structurally interesting and hydrodynamically efficient, making them ideal candidates for conversion. As Biferali explained: “When trade slows, shipowners retire vessels that are still in excellent condition. Anthos gives them a new purpose”.

🏠 THE OWNER GETS A THREE-DECK PRIVATE TOWER:
The centrepiece of “ANTHOS” is a tri-deck owner’s tower rising above the superstructure. It would contain 284 square metres of living space including private lounges, offices, a media room and sun terraces totalling 135 square metres with full 360-degree panoramic views.
Essentially, the owner gets a penthouse apartment floating above the ocean, completely separate from all guest areas
