Fun Facts
💵 THE UKRAINIAN BILLIONAIRE OWNER:
“LUMINANCE” is owned by Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine's richest man and founder of System Capital Management (SCM).
Born in 1966, in Donetsk, he is the son of a coal miner who built a business empire spanning steel, energy, banking, telecommunications and real estate. With a net worth estimated between $4-8 billion, he also owns the football club Shakhtar Donetsk and is considered Ukraine's equivalent to Roman Abramovich. His business holdings include over 500 companies employing approximately 200’000 people worldwide.
🏗️ 6 YEARS TO BUILD:
Construction on “LUMINANCE” began in early 2018 when Akhmetov signed the contract. The project was moved to outfitting in February 2021, after three years of hull construction. And finally, “LUMINANCE” was delivered to her owner in January 2024, departing from Lürssen's Lemwerder facility and heading to Kristiansand, Norway.
The entire build process took approximately 6 years from contract signing to delivery.
🔎 SOME OF THE AMENITIES:
● Dual touch-and-go helipads.
● Two lavish jacuzzis on the upper deck.
● Spectacular infinity swimming pool at the stern with underwater LED lighting
● Full-beam beach club with a connecting swim platform featuring an intimate circular seating area
● Private cinema
● Grand piano in the main salon
● State-of-the-art wellness center with gym, spa, massage rooms, sauna and steam room
● Guest elevator connects all decks
● A spacious tender garage for storing multiple custom tenders (10-12m), jet skis, seabobs, e-foils and diving equipment
🤔 THE OWNER CONSIDERED TO SELL:
In May 2022, as Russia’s invasion raged, Jock Mendoza-Wilson, director of international relations for SCM, told The New York Times: “Given the current circumstances, we are considering its possible sale”, of the yet-unfinished mega-vessel.
Despite this public statement, construction continued, with family members traveling within Europe to oversee building details while Akhmetov remained in Ukraine during the hostilities.
❤️ 30th COLLAB LURSSEN / ESPEN ØINO:
“LUMINANCE” marks the 30th collaboration between legendary designer Espen Øino International and Lürssen shipyard, a partnership spanning over two decades.
This celebrated relationship has produced some of the world's most iconic megayachts, including the 156m Dilbar (2016), 136m Flying Fox (2019) and 135.5m Crescent (2018), all these yachts are available on my database if you are interested!
Øino's design for “LUMINANCE” features a striking elongated bow, cascading aft decks and a distinctive dark blue hull paired with silver accents, creating what observers describe as an assertive and sophisticated appearance.
Together, Lürssen and Øino are responsible for approximately one-third of the world's largest yachts!
